Angkor Wat is a Must!

With a wealth of luxury hospitality experience in Asia and the Middle East, Justin Pitt understands the essence of what makes a stay at Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa so special. The Australian native, who has been part of the Anantara family for 4 years, welcomes Club Owners to Siem Reap for an extraordinary Club Escapes experience. Here, he reveals what Club Owners can expect from their stay and how best to discover the wonder of Cambodia.

Q: Who is Club Escape Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa perfect for?
A: Siem Reap, and Cambodia as a whole, offer so much diversity in experiences and activities that the resort appeals to many different Club Owners. Angkor Wat is an Eighth Wonder of the World and an amazing cultural experience, whilst the town of Siem Reap is home to world-class restaurants and vibrant markets amidst ancient Colonial and Chinese architecture. Club Owners looking for adventure can enjoy helicopter rides, horse riding, quad biking and golf, as well as water sports and elephant experiences. Cambodia promises incredible experiences, in a spectacular setting, with renowned Cambodian friendliness and hospitality.

Q: What about as a family getaway?
A: Yes, the resort has family-style suites and there's lots of family-friendly activities and entertainment in Siem Reap. The Phae Circus is a popular destination for families with its world-class acrobatic performances of Khmer cultural stories. The performers, who have received worldwide acclaim, come from a community based project in an underprivileged area and the proceeds all go to supporting this great cause.

Q: Siem Reap is home to amazing temples, what is a favourite you recommend to Club Owners?
A: There are over 1,000 temple sites within a small area near to the resort but I personally love Bend Mealea, around 40 kilometres east, which is a large temple compound built in the early 12th century, close to the same time as Angkor Wat. The site has remained relatively untouched since it was discovered around 100 years ago and trees spiral through the structures to create an interesting canopy and magical lighting effects. We take Club Owners on a guided trip here to learn about the extensive carvings, temple design and what temple life would have been like so many years ago. Intriguing!

Q: What top 3 cannot-miss experiences would you recommend to our Club Owners?
A: The number one would have to be exploring the temples, whether by foot, guided bicycle tour or with a helicopter photography tour over the incredible temple scene. You can even take a majestic elephant ride from the temple gate to the main pavilion. The temple experience is as diverse as it is exciting and fascinating.

A must-visit is one of the largest freshwater lakes, Tonle Sap, home to floating villages which even have floating schools!  My third recommendation is an Apsara Dance, traditionally performed for royalty hundreds of years ago and depicting religious stories and folk tales. At the resort we have the perfect setting for a classic Apsara Dance with live music, which Club Owners can enjoy with a Dining by Design experience.

Q: Can you give Club Owners a top travel tip?
A: Bring your camera! Siem Reap has once-in-a-lifetime sights you will remember forever and Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa is the perfect place to experience them all!
