Golfing on Australia's Gold Coast

Aussie native, professional golfer, Jack Munro, who runs exclusive Golf Clinics for Anantara Vacation Club, takes Club Owners on a journey to discover his home for the last 10 years, the beautiful southeastern side of Queensland on the glorious Gold Coast of Australia. Here Club Owners can discover much more than renowned golf courses, with vacations in the sun that promise an unforgettable experience for all Club Owners.

"Living here is a big part of why I play golf professionally but this part of Queensland is a great place to holiday too, with terrific weather, beautiful beaches and pounding surf, plus fantastic golf, world-class restaurants and lovely little hideaways.  Without a doubt, the Gold Coast has the best year-round weather in Australia for outdoor activities.  Winter is my favourite time of year here as the wind is low and there's hardly any rain, with temperatures around 18-19°C.  The surf's good at this time of year too and it's a perfect time to visit any of our four theme parks, Wet'n Wild, Sea World, Movie World and Dreamworld.

This is also an ideal time to golf too! There are several great courses close to each other. When I first moved here, I joined the Coolangatta Tweed Heads Golf Club which has two public courses and offers excellent facilities. The two courses, played on different greens, really challenge different parts of your game, so I would recommend playing them both if you can!

Further north, premier golf courses include Sanctuary Cove (The Palms) where the course was redesigned three years ago and is a real challenge…which I appreciate.  The greens are tricky with many slopes and always quite firm.  The course is fairly generous off the tee, but it also offers many risk-reward options but I still think that the course is enjoyable for most levels of golfers. Another great course is Lakeland, which is a little easier, except when the wind kicks up!  Other fabulous Gold Coast courses include The Glades, Arundel Hills, Robina Woods and, if you get the chance to travel a little further south, Murwillumbah and Ocean Shores.

After a few days of golf and the beach, make sure you visit the hinterland near Mt. Tamborine, and check out the local wineries and restaurants.  The scenery is absolutely gorgeous.  Back on the coast, definitely try out the local seafood at some of the area’s best restaurants.  My  favourites are Elk in Broadbeach and Barchino at Nobby’s Beach. They both serve great coffee!
With beautiful beaches, theme parks, great golf and superb seafood and wine, the Gold Coast is a perfect holiday destination for all Club Owners to discover, explore and experience!"

Visit Australia's Gold Coast and stay in Coolangatta, on the southerly edge at Oaks Calypso Plaza Gold Coast; making the most of a relaxing, family-friendly resort style stay which is right by the beach and still close to restaurants, shopping and and evening entertainment, as well as more sedate settings in beautiful, natural surroundings.
