Anantara GM Reveals Beauty of Si Kao

Starting as a pot washer in a Melbourne restaurant, Australian Dylan Counsel has come a long way. His vast wealth of experience in hospitality has inspired real passion for creating quality stays and led him to the position of General Manager in one of the most stunning locations and resorts in the world, Anantara Si Kao Resort & Spa in Thailand's south.

Set right by the white sands of the Andaman Coast, where limestone karsts jut out of the sparkling

turquoise waters, Dylan is a hands-on GM who takes pride in creating a wonderfully relaxing resort atmosphere. He happily motivates his dynamic and dedicated team to deliver
unique experiences and a genuine, friendly and professional service to Club Owners who visit this Club Escapes beach beauty.

Here, he talks to Anantara Vacation Club and gives Club Owners an interesting insight into staying at this Thai beach paradise.

Q: It's an exciting time to be part of Anantara Vacation Club, isn't it?
A: It really is! It's a great time to be part of Minor International, Anantara and Anantara Vacation Club because there are so many amazing plans for the future. Club Owners are going to be joining us on exciting new adventures to unique corners of the world. I honestly can't wait!

Q: What type of Club Owner is Anantara Si Kao Resort & Spa ideal for?
A: That's simple…anyone and everyone who wants to stay at one of the most stunning beachfront resorts there is. I'm not sure if we have a Club Owner 'type' as you can come here to relax, be active, spend a romantic time away or have fun with the whole family.

Q: Is the resort more suited to families or Club Owners looking to really unwind?
A: Both! If you want to chill out and relax then it's a perfect location, with everything onsite, such as our Anantara Spa, wonderful restaurants and two swimming pools and yet there's still lots to do, activity-wise for families. We have family-friendly suites and our Dugong Kids' Club to keep little ones entertained. At the same time, we have separate areas for adults to totally chill-out so they can enjoy the spacious, private and totally relaxing feel of the resort. Our sea view rooms are perfect for couples wanting some alone time too.

Q: What makes Anantara Si Kao Resort & Spa special in this part of Thailand?
A: Of course the resort is amazing but beyond that it is Si Kao itself. It's not so touristy, so it has a natural, undeveloped character that is what people are looking for on an exclusive beach holiday. The resort and the idyllic beach setting, which I have to mention is picture-postcard beautiful, just fit together seamlessly and guests can get a really authentic experience of the local culture and cuisine of Si Kao. What's really great is that even though you might feel a million miles away, we're actually just 30 minutes from the domestic airport at Trang and an hour from Krabi International Airport, so we're not difficult to find!

Q: What Top 5 experiences would you recommend to Club Owners?
A:
The real experience of Anantara Si Kao Resort & Spa is just being here but there are definite highlights which I think really make a trip memorable. For me, nothing beats taking a speedboat to our private island beach club on Koh Kradan, with its white sands and reefs teeming with colourful tropical fish.

Since relaxing is all about wellbeing then I don't think a stay here is complete without indulging in some Anantara Spa treatments. As soon as you walk into our blissful retreat in a quiet courtyard by a lotus pond you feel serene and I guarantee you will walk out feeling unbelievably mellow and relaxed.

It's interesting that so many Club Owners who stay with us feel so connected to the natural setting. You can get involved with eco-projects, helping the environment and the fragile eco-system, such as planting seagrass in a beautiful natural cove to help support the food source for the endangered dugong who inhabit the waters near the resort. You might even spot one of these incredible sea cows!

One of my favourite experiences we offer here at Anantara Si Kao is a Thai cooking class. It's just so much fun. You start the day visiting a local market and enjoy a traditional dim sum breakfast with roast pork and super strong 'coffee boran', before returning to the resort to learn how to cook mouthwatering southern Thai cuisine.

Our Dinner of the Legends is a really magical, indigenous experience that you won't want to miss. A local fisherman tells you the story behind the legend of Mook and Meng islands, followed by a sumptuous seafood dinner, served in a stunning beachside setting by your own personal Chef for the evening. What I would definitely recommend is to watch the sunset at the Beach House first, where we make the best cocktails to sip while the sun goes down on what I know will have been a glorious day in Si Kao!

Q: What is your top tip for a perfect stay?
A: Come prepared to relax and unwind in the resort facilities and beautiful guest rooms, with the help of Anantara Spa…or come prepared to be as active as you like. The natural setting, beautiful Andaman waters, adjoining national park and nearby Mangrove forests are exciting to explore and whether you visit as a family, couple or singleton, I'm convinced you will discover a unique part of Thailand here…I know I did!
