Getting to know Bophut, Koh Samui

Bophut is just one of the many fantastic towns on the island of Koh Samui. Nestled between Mae Nam Beach and the Big Buddha Beach along the island’s northern coastline, this holiday destination is a favourite among discerning travellers with its historical charm and local activity. Even though Samui’s popularity has grown in recent years, Bophut still retains its tranquillity and charming elegance to this day and is home to the stunning Anantara Vacation Club Bophut Koh Samui.

Bophut is most renowned for its Fisherman’s Village, which is home to beautiful, teak shop houses intermingled with modern storefronts and the Club Resort provides the perfect base from which to discover the area. A small community of French expats established themselves here years ago, creating a distinct air of French sophistication amongst the town’s guesthouses, boutique cafés and eclectic shops. Within these shops you can find one-of-a-kind crafts, high quality vintage and designer pieces, and unique Asian homewares and décor.

Things to Do in Bophut

Aside from shopping, you can go golfing or mini-golfing, shooting at a nearby gun range, zip lining through the jungle or go-carting on a twisting speed track. Challenge yourself and your family to the new hybrid game in town, one that merges the game of football and golf and is appropriately named football golf.

Water lovers can go jet skiing, parasailing, wake boarding or sea kayaking. If you want to see the beautiful underwater world off Koh Samui’s coast, sign up for a snorkelling trip or a deep sea diving class. Additionally, those who want to go all out can charter a yacht, speedboat or even a fishing boat for the day to soak of the region’s tropical splendours.

If you’re looking to relax on Bophut, lounge on the nearby beaches while sipping tropical cocktails from the nearest waterfront resort – there is even an aqua park on the beach to keep the kids entertained. In the evenings these beaches are transformed into fine dining arenas. Resorts set up twinkling lights and put out displays of freshly caught seafood for hungry passersby. The dining selection of these resorts is incredible; exotic Thai cuisine is available alongside restaurants serving up Spanish paella, Mediterranean tapas, Italian frittatas and more. Of course, you’re always welcome to dine at the Club Resort.

Every Friday, Bophut puts on a spectacular walking street market in which hundreds of street vendors set up their tents and sell delicious snacks and interesting trinkets. Forget the loud beach bars, clubs and restaurants of Chaweng Beach, this is the place to be. As the sun sets, entertainers emerge and put on shows featuring dancing, juggling and fire throwing.

At the end of the day, vacationers can sink into the comforts of their tropical resort. The Anantara Vacation Club Bophut Koh Samui is just a short ride away from the excitement and offers guests a relaxing haven within its waterfront villas.

Other Island Destinations

Along with Bophut, Koh Samui has plenty of other towns and beaches offering up a variety of different scenes. Chaweng is best known for its energetic clubs, lively bars and music venues, while Lamai is more easygoing, and less expensive, yet equally as fun. On the other end of the spectrum are Bang Por and Choeng Mon, which feature pristine beaches and Thai shops with few tourists. Wherever you choose to visit during your stay, Koh Samui has something for everyone.
