Keep the Romance Alive On the Road
The couple that travels together stays together.

Exotic locales, a break from day-to-day routines and, hopefully, plenty of nice weather – there’s just something about travelling and going on holiday with that special someone that will send sparks flying.

However, it can sometimes cause some unwanted stress, as you’re put into unusual situations and often in close quarters. Though at home you may not see each other during the day, while on holiday you can expect to be spending quality time together day in and day out. Add to that smaller living quarters (hint: splurge for the suite instead of a simple hotel room!) and perhaps travelling with children or other family members, tensions can rise.

Follow these five tips for travelling as a couple and you can expect smooth sailing and an unforgettable holiday.

Find your secret saying

Travelling with family or friends? Come up with a secret phrase just the two of you know to convey a special meaning that keeps the romance alive.

Make special plans

Of course travelling in itself often marks a special occasion, but make it extra memorable, and romantic, by planning an exceptional experience for the two of you. Just because you’re somewhere new doesn’t mean you should skip date night.

Play to your strong suits

Great at organising activities ahead of time but no good with a map? Stick to planning your daily excursions while your loved one deals with getting you from point A to B. Taking responsibility for what you’re each good at will help divide the travel responsibilities and put less pressure on each of you.

Keep the kids to a bedtime routine

Sure vacation means a more relaxed schedule, but mum and dad still need time to themselves! Keeping the kids close to their usual bedtime routine will not only help cut down on possibly tired and irritable children during the day, but give you some time to relax in the evening – kid free – as well. (Bonus tip: Take advantage of the Kid’s Club activity centres found at Club Resorts such as Anantara Vacation Club Mai Khao Phuket to keep the little ones amused)

Spend some time solo

Just because you’re holidaying together doesn’t mean you need to spend 24/7 with your significant other. A brief break, even if it simply involves one of you running a couple of errands while the other stays by the pool, can provide a much needed break for you to each have some alone time then come back together to appreciate one another’s company even more.

Let loose and enjoy

It’s your holiday, make the most of it! Let yourself unwind and be a little spontaneous – indulge in a relaxing massage for two, sneak in a lazy nap in the middle of the afternoon or treat yourself to a delectable dessert.

Simply enjoy the time you two have together…the real world will always be waiting when you return.
